La Maison Ruth was seriously neglected for many years and I have restored the her sympathetically to retain original features and incorporate modern comforts using traditional and ecologically-friendly materials and methods; the aim was not to produce what feels like a new building within an old shell but to retain signs of age. The style is in keeping with a building of the period - mid 19th Century and the majority of the furniture is period and has been restored by us - including the rare, original French corbeille and demi-corbeille beds that we have reupholstered and re-covered; they are complete with original sprung sommiers for a comfortable night's sleep. La Maison Ruth is opposite the church of St Martin de Montbray and set in private gardens (the gardens are maintained to provide a pleasant place for you to relax but also with wildlife in mind. All gardening practices are organic and sympathetic) providing a calm base from which to explore Basse-Normandie; the D-Day Beaches, Bayeaux Tapestry, Mont St Miichel and a host of attractions are within easy reach - the local bar is a ten minute walk away in the village of Montbray.
