Rue Galilee is the most charming B&B. The historic building has been completely renovated, but it still maintains an authentic connection to the past. The proprietor, Jan, is a delight. He’s Swedish, and he’s brought a superb Swedish mattress...

Janne’s genuine warmth and heart-felt hospitality has earnt him an enviable reputation – not only with the international mix of people who come to stay but also with friends who drop in to join guests for a drink at his private bar in the evenings. He has a wealth of stories from his 3 year sailing trip round the World as featured in his book, Brave or Stupid. Boutique hotel chic is tastefully balanced with the comfortable, at-home ambience at Rue Galilee. With tasteful velvet drapes and decoration and high-quality cotton bedding, the five en-suite bedrooms with luxurious Carpe Diem beds can guarantee a great night's sleep. A generous buffet breakfast is offered in the spacious ground floor dining room, as a relaxed start to ”Another day in Paradise”. We invite you to come and stay so we can take good care of you too. We are delighted to have this recognition for all Janne’s hard work, and are committed to carry on mixing high standards with a sense of fun, whenever you choose to visit. It is no surprise the mayor of Marseillan was enthusiastic to cut the blue and yellow ribbon and declare the house “ready to receive guests” in July 2016.

Property info

Rue Galilee B&B is a delightful townhouse, dating from the 1600s, restored with great care and love to its former glory whilst incorporating the best 21st century refinements for maximum comfort. Attention to detail has earned us a rave review in The New York Times: “I walked into the old town of Marseillan to the five-room B&B Rue Galilee, where I discovered one of the most delightful small hotels I've ever found in France. This old stone house with blue wooden shutters and boxes of red geraniums was meticulously renovated by the Swedish owner Janne Larsson. The generous Scandinavian style breakfast, including herring and house-smoked salmon, that was served the next morning was excellent, too.” By Alexander Lobrano Published Aug. 29, 2019 Working with a local mason, Janne retained the original French tiled floors, revealed fireplaces and renovated the fascinating stonework which has its own stories to tell. He has added a sophisticated air conditioning system to ensure cool in summer and warmth in winter; intelligent lighting and Wi-Fi throughout: and smoothly tiled bathrooms boasting tasteful modern fittings. With 15 chandeliers illuminating every bedroom and stairways.

Neighborhood info

We have found the ideal location in the tranquil heart of the old town of Marseillan, peaceful and calm; within easy reach of the thriving port. A 3 minute stroll brings you to our charming town centre with harbour-front cafes and restaurants to suit every taste. We have bicycles to hire, if you would like to explore the surrounding area. Marseillan is one of the oldest towns in France and has a colourful history. In Roman times it was already an important port, between Agde and Sète, on the major trade routes crossing the Mediterranean region. In later times drifting sand caused the Bassin de Thau to form behind a 20 kilometre-long sandbar, creating a tidal lagoon ideal for the cultivation of shell-fish, oysters and mussels. Glorious golden sandy beaches fringe the coast where the Mediterranean sea is invitingly clear. The Canal du Midi meets the ocean here, before stretching all the way over to the Atlantic coast; an amazing feat of engineering by Beziers’ son, Paul Riquet. Other attractions include vineyards cultivating the note-worthy Languedoucian wines; picture-perfect countryside wrapping typical French villages; and Marseillan's own 200 year old Noilly Prat distillery.
