Originally an agricultural barn for the storage of produce (namely haricot blanc beans ) and animal feed, this small dwelling is perfect for a single occupant or a couple. The property is open plan on 3 levels, with a fitted kitchen and shower room on the ground floor, up a few stairs to a generous and high ceilinged lounge and dining area and then a gallery style mezzanine bedroom accessed via turning stairs with a large king size bed, Views over gardens and field. Note this area has a very low, sloping ceiling (max 1.5m). Outside space is a small enclosed private deck with mini garden, table , chairs and parasol and an outdoor sofa. There is an adjoining field (for dog walking, football and other sports though no equipment provided. There is private parking available but on street parking is also available and safe on our quiet street. We offer the free use of a traditional punt and 2 adult bikes in order for our guests to explore this very unique, local area. An intriguing network of canals and waterways awaits you just down a lane.

British couple who live on site in another building and share the half acre back field with all our guests. There are 2 gites in all. We speak French and German too and love welcoming our guests from all over Europe and beyond and introducing our part of 'La France Secrete'. Traditional punt available free of charge for exploring. We invite you to come and enjoy this very unique and relaxing part of France. Green Venice (locally known as the Venise Verte is best explored by boat, bike or on foot so you can forget your car for a few days. It is also ideal for those wishing to paint, fish, bird watch or general nature watching and relaxing.

Village amenities on your doorstep include a Tourist Information office, small but well equiipped grocery store, a few restaurants, a pizzeria/ ice-cream parlour, artisan shops, petrol station, antique shop and post office. The city of La Rochelle (also the nearest airport) is about 40 minutes away; a delightful harbour town to explore with good restaurants and summer animation. The Atlantic coast, with large, clean and safe,sandy beaches is within easy reach (about 40mins away) as is the famous and trendy Ile de Re - a delightful island, over the bridge from La Rochelle. There are indoor and outdoor pools, tennis and equestrian facilities nearby and plenty of opportunity for water sports on the coast (Chatelaillion Plage being the nearest centre. Theme parks such as Futuroscope and the award winning Puy du Fou are both accessible for a day out and there are also lots of animal and water parks. For exploration further afield, there is good access to such destinations as Saintes, Cognac, Bordeaux and its vineyards, the Atlantic islands of Re, Oleron and Aix and seaside resorts such as Royan , Fouras and Rochefort.
