The Silent Picket is a former farmhouse in the middle of the Somme Battlefields. It was built in the 1920's as part of the reconstruction after World War 1. We undertook a complete renovation but have kept all the original features that make the Silent Picket so special. This is now a peaceful and tranquil spot ideal for some quiet relaxation.
We fell in love with this area after visiting from England to follow the movements of the Devon Regiment during the Great War. After numerous visits we decided to move here full time and set up the Silent Picket. Now we enjoy, through John's research, helping our guests get the most from their visits especially when they are researching the WW1 experience of their forebears. Chef Jennie's professional experience helps ensure that the Silent Picket is well renowned for its evening meals.
In the heart of the Somme Battlefield, we are in a center of remembrance. Forty nationalities fought here in the Great War and ancestors from all those countries visit here. For those with an interest in World War 1, either from a historical, national or family perspective there could be no better base. John and Jennie are on hand to offer advice on where to go and what to see. We are both experienced battlefield guides and offer personal guided WW1 tours. If you are visiting from abroad, staying with us and touring with us we can collect you from the station so you have no need for a car during your stay.
