Anyone familiar with this part of southern Eryri (Snowdonia) will know how spectacular the landscape is in this area. ‘A walkers paradise’ is the standard phrase reeled out, but it’s undoubtedly true in this instance. Less crowded than the slopes of Wyddfa (Snowdon), the mountains in this part of the national park provide a real opportunity to explore the true wilderness of Wales. A short 10 minute drive will take you into the more populated town of Machynlleth. Steeped in welsh history the town most famous resident was Owain Glyndwr, the heroic welsh rebel of medieval times. The town hosts a farmers market every Wednesday and is home to some delightful shops cafes and pubs. Corris, another nearby village, has the well known ‘Centre for Alternative Technology’ as well as a small craft village and ‘King Arthurs Labyrinth’, an underground tour certain to capture a child’s imagination. The popular seaside towns of Aberdyfi and Tywyn are a short drive to the south west. Bala, to the east, is famous for its fishing and whitewater rafting and the world renowned mountain biking trails of Coed Y Brenin are about 30 minutes to the north.
