You never really ‘own’ a house like Bryansford Cottage, you’re just looking after it for whoever is coming along next. We are the latest in a long line of custodians. The house has been here for about 200 years – we don’t have the exact date it was built but it appears on the Ordinance Survey Map of 1834 so we know it predates that.

I’m Jay, originally from Falkirk in Scotland (and a very proud Scot). I spent many years in London working in careers as diverse as theatre, the judicial service and the charity sector. I am also a trained psychotherapist, I’m really interested in people and what makes them tick. Laterally, I’ve taken on the role of chief house restorer for this beautiful property we are lucky enough to call home. I’ve been involved in every aspect of the renovations we’ve undertaken on the property since we moved in 2016. I began visiting this area when I met Mary in 2006 and over the years came to realise just how special this place is. Being sandwiched between the mountains and sea I realised just what a haven it was and what a super place it was to spend a few days relaxing. I’m glad we’ve been able to create a stunning location for people to come and enjoy a home away from home immersed in these beautiful surroundings. Mary, grew up 3 miles away in Newcastle Co. Down. Always outdoorsy, she spent a chunk of her childhood in or on the water, in the forest or up the mountains. After university in Dublin, I decamped to London where I spent the best part of two decades working as a lawyer.
