Neighborhood info

The North Pennines and Lake District Fells can be seen from Appleby-in-Westmorland, which sits in a valley of the River Eden, an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. This charming northern English town, once the seat of Westmorland's county government, is nestled in the lush Eden Valley. Guests can enjoy the beautiful scenery of the Lake District and the Yorkshire Dales, as well as numerous hiking and cycling trails and the town's fantastic leisure centre, while staying in Appleby. There are a wide variety of high-quality independent shops, cafes, and delicatessens in Appleby selling locally sourced food and crafts. To get to the well-preserved Norman Castle and the lovely mediaeval Church of St. Lawrence, walk down the charming Boroughgate street, which is lined with some interesting old buildings. Several old steam trains still run through Appleby on the Settle-Carlisle Railway, which is one of the most scenic routes in the United Kingdom. This route includes a trip over the historically significant Ribblehead viaduct. This is a wonderful location for a getaway, as it is only a short distance from the beautiful Lake District and Ullswater.
