Your hosts have professional interests and background in archaeology (Egyptology), culture, languages, history and sea transport, and of course also in hospitality and tourism. In our smallholding outside to the rear of the main building we have some sheep (withers) brought up by us from Caddies.

Orkneylodge is situated at Houton Bay in the parish of Orphir, which is a rural and coastal location only 15 minutes drive to the main towns, airport and ferry terminals in Orkney. The front rooms have views of Scapa Flow and several islands. We recommend you have transport to get around. Our rooms are spacious hotel size and all are en-suite and easily accessible on the ground floor. Orkneylodge has a high standard 4-star Visit Scotland grading.

Orkneylodge is situated in a quiet rural and coastal location and is built next to one of the first ever naval seaplane bases in the world, operated during the First World War. Orkney was once a major naval base for thousands of personnel at Scapa Flow. This is where the British Fleet was anchored and serviced during the 1st and 2nd World Wars. Houton Bay is also the location for the ferry to the South Isles of Hoy and Flotta. The bay often has seals swimming around, many sea-birds, and there are local walks to enjoy. Also a short walk is The Bu and Round Church and The Orkney Inga Saga Centre.
