Less than a mile from Windermere Railway Station and town centre, the Ivythwaite Lodge Guest House offers luxurious rooms, free parking and free Wi-Fi. The Lodge has a private garden and welcomes guests on a room only or bed and breakfast basis All rooms have en suite bathrooms, flat-screen TVs and tea/coffee facilities. Some rooms have aqua spa baths, power showers and four-poster beds. Guests can enjoy a varied breakfast menu in house with produce home-made or locally sourced. Vegetarian and vegan options are also available. Other services and facilities offered include free guides to a range of local walks in the hills and on the lake shore and helps guests who wish to stargaze with advice and equipment. The centre of Bowness is a 15-minute walk away, giving you access to the Windermere Ferry, the World of Beatrix Potter museum and water sports on Lake Windermere. Kendal, Grasmere and Dove Cottage, the home of William Wordsworth are only a 20 minute drive away and the M6 motorway is only 15 minutes’ drive from Ivythwaite Lodge.

We purchased Ivythwaite Lodge in September 2017 after careers as teachers in the south of England. We have our own living quarters within the Lodge. We are proud to offer a traditional Lakeland guest house experience to guests from all around the world. Whether the reason for your visit is to take part in all (or some!) of the activities that the beautiful Lake District offers, or whether it is to relax and enjoy the scenery, we hope to welcome you to our Lodge and help you to make the most of your visit. We have a sustainability charter and ask our guests to take a number of steps to limit the environmental impact of their stay with us. We are a climate positive organisation working with Ecologi, an environmental organisation which fund climate projects. We are proud to promote the stunning dark skies of the Lake District and have resources and equipment to help our guests with their stargazing. At Ivythwaite Lodge, we guarantee a warm Lake District welcome.

Andrew and Abigail offer a warm welcome to Ivythwaite Lodge, a traditional Lakeland stone and flint guest house in beautiful Windermere. Originally built as a gentleman’s residence in the 1860s, the Lodge offers spacious accommodation with original features and modern conveniences. We have five double bedrooms, two with four poster beds, and one larger bedroom with a super king size bed and the facility for an additional single bed. All our rooms are en suite and four contain baths, with two of them containing indulgent spa baths. We pride ourselves on our hospitality and offer a varied breakfast menu, served in our elegant dining room warmed in the winter months by a log burner. The favourite choice is definitely our Cumbrian breakfast with locally sourced sausages, bacon and eggs; but we also serve vegetarian and vegan options. We’re ideally located on a quiet street just off the road between Windermere and Bowness-on-Windermere. Both villages are lively, with plenty of restaurants, pubs and shops; and both are within ten minutes’ walk of the Lodge. We offer a private car park with EV charge point at the rear of the Lodge and there is also plenty of on street parking.

We encourage our guests to take advantage of the stunning walks available locally. We have selected five local walks which all start at the front door of Ivythwaite Lodge. Choose from lakeside strolls and uphill walks to panoramic viewpoints across Lake Windermere. All walks have full PDF guides and OS maps to ensure you keep on the right track. We have laminated copies for guests to borrow should they prefer. We have produced a guide outlining a classic sightseeing day out in the Lake District. It takes in the beautiful village of Grasmere where you can visit Dove Cottage, home to William Wordsworth, and taste some fantastic Grasmere gingerbread. Next is the Lakeland town of Keswick, in the shadow of Skiddaw moutnain to its north, with its amazing pencil museum and the atmospheric Castlerigg Stone Circle. The route back to Windermere via the A592 Kirkstone Pass is possibly the most spectacular drive in England. It follows the shore of Ullswater before climbing through the fells at a height of almost 1500ft. The views of Lake WIndermere are truly a sight to behold. There are many great bars and restaurants within walking distance of Ivythwaite Lodge - something for all tastes.
