Cowpasture Lane, an ancient cattle drovers path that once linked medieval livestock markets, runs from the main gate. Turn left and follow the path up to the village of Mellis or turn right for the woodland walks at Thornham which offer 12 miles of trails where there is a beautiful walled garden selling fresh produce and plants (in season). Local cafes offer excellent breakfasts, lunches and refreshments. There are small galleries & shops with pop up exhibitions and a fishing lake (permit required). Thornham’s diverse natural habitat is home to a rich variety of wildlife including Roe Deer, Red Kite, Hares & Woodpeckers. The village also boasts a thatched Norman Church, with a rare painted retable c.1330, a fine restaurant and a beautiful cricket club hidden amongst the woodland (with bar), with matches held on Saturday afternoons (May-August).
