Retaining character and charm, they lie in a peaceful setting overlooking countryside with many cycle tracks nearby. Ideal walking and fishing country, yet close to famous attractions - visitors can step back in time at the Beamish Open Air Museum or visit the Metro Centre (a shopper’s paradise), Hexham (with its glorious abbey), Durham City (a city of contrasts, with its fine cathedral and designer shops), or the Northumberland coast, which are all within an hour’s drive.
