Mourne Hikers' Cottage is a peaceful, contemporary holiday let in a peaceful residential area of Newcastle, nestled at the foot of The Mournes and hemmed in by The Irish Sea. It is just five-minute walk to the base of Slieve Donard and the Mournes, the statring point for many great well trodden hikes through The Mournes. It is also just 5-10 minutes to Newcastle beach and Promenade, and about 15 minutes to the fishing harbour. If spending money is on your mind, shops, cafes, bars and the local community cinema rea all to be found on the main street, 5 minutes walk - and just 2 minutes to the convenience store, in case you run out of milk. The property benefits from spacious south-facing, private gardens.
I'm privileged to be a blow-in to the most beautiful part of Ireland, exactly where the mountains of Mourne sweep down to the sea, from wonderful Sligo - which is still in my DNA (easy going with a "whest" of Ireland accent). In the same vein, I'm easy going and approachable as a Host - so, whatever you need, just ask! I'm a family man, and like to remind myself that life is good to me. I like cycling and running, in moderation, and a few pints maybe coupled with a good boogie (badly). Definitely enjoy the hosting thingy.
Newcastle, County Down, nestled at the foot of the Mourne Mountains in Northern Ireland, is a picturesque town that captivates both locals and tourists alike. People are particularly drawn to Newcastle for its stunning natural beauty, which offers a perfect blend of sea and mountain landscapes. The town's most famous feature is its close proximity to the Mourne Mountains, a range renowned for its rugged terrain and majestic views. The mountains, including the highest peak, Slieve Donard, provide a dramatic backdrop to the town and are a haven for outdoor enthusiasts. Hiking, rock climbing, and mountain biking are popular activities in the area, allowing visitors to immerse themselves in the serene and unspoiled wilderness. The Mournes themselves are an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB) and are celebrated for their unique granite peaks, heather-covered slopes, and scenic walking trails. The Mourne Wall, a 22-mile long dry stone wall that crosses 15 of the summits, is a unique feature that attracts hikers from all over. People love exploring these mountains not just for their physical beauty, but also for the peace and solitude they offer. In addition to the outdoor adventures, Newcastle's charming seaside appeal makes it a favored destination. The town's promenade stretches along the sandy beach, providing stunning views of the coastline and the mountains. Visitors enjoy leisurely walks along the promenade, breathing in the fresh sea air, and admiring the panoramic vistas. The town itself has a welcoming and friendly atmosphere, with quaint cafes, local shops, and traditional pubs adding to its charm. Moreover, Newcastle and the Mournes are steeped in rich cultural history and folklore, which adds an extra layer of fascination for visitors. From legends of St. Patrick to stories of ancient battles, the area's heritage is woven into its landscape, making it a captivating destination for all who visit.
