Shorefield is a warm and quirky house. It's not modern and could do with a bit of a wee refresh but many guests love it's character and charm. The owners no longer visit Islay as they are quite elderly and have left their interesting books and art in the house for people to share. Their love of birds and wildlife is evident as soon as you step into the house. It has been a well-loved and lived in family home and, if you read through the reviews, some guests are able to see beyond the threadbare carpets, others not so much. If you're looking for a modern house then Portbahn, our other property which is moments away from Shorefield, would be more suited to you. The house comfortably sleeps six across two floors, with a downstairs bedroom and a shower room with a toilet. There is a bathroom with a bath, toilet and separate shower upstairs, and a large landing full of children's toys and a great spot for bird-watching. Guests have access to a utility room with a washing machine and tumble dryer, downstairs. The glorious thing about Shorefield is its cottage-style kitchen, with it's Everhot (similar to an Aga) and choice of kitchen tables. The kitchen also opens into a more formal dining area and it's perfect for groups and bigger families. The beds are comfortable and fresh, with quality linen, and the log burner in the sitting room makes for a wonderfully cosy nook in the winter. The house is set back from the road and surrounded by wildlife. The owners carried out immense work when they first built Shorefield, building ponds, bird hides and a wood at the back of the house. Please feel free to explore this area. There is plenty of off-road parking.

The house is within walking distance of Bruichladdich village and Distillery. You can also walk to Port Charlotte and shortly there will be a footpath opposite the house which will take people safely from Bruichladdich to Port Charlotte. Plenty of pubs and restaurants in Port Charlotte and Bowmore and the supermarket is only a 15min drive away.
