Host Info

Joanne and Damian have opened up their home at St Marks Stays for group holidays and retreats. We live in our own self contained apartment at the end of the property, so you will meet us on arrival and sometimes see us passing through the garden, but we leave you to enjoy your stay, unless you need help with anything. The house is in the stunning location between the Yorkshire Dales and the Lake District. With the perfect combination of facilities, space and location, St Marks Stays is self-catering and dog friendly. It can sleep up to 16 maximum across 8 bedrooms. There are 6 ensuites and 1 shared bathroom. Five rooms can be made up as twin, or double beds on request. Three bedrooms have double beds. All ensuites have showers and one has a bath. The shared bathroom has a bath with a shower over it. The kitchen is fully equipped for self-catering for groups. We provide salt, pepper, oil and a starter set of tea and coffee, but no milk. There is a gas Aga, gas hob, double electric oven, microwave, dishwasher and coffee machine. Our long dining space is perfect for dinner parties, with large windows and patio doors offering awesome views across the hillside. There are two lounges and one smart TV with Netflix. There are three log burning stoves and wood is provided for these. The studio space is for use by retreats and suitable for yoga, or creative workshops. There is yoga kit and tables and chairs. We ask that it is not used as a party, or play room, or slept in please. The garden has a stock fence around it and views of the Howgill Fells. There is a firepit that doubles as a barbeque. We provide wood, but not cooking coals. There is a cold plunge bath that is free to use. Next to this there is a wood fired sauna that can be booked in advance for a 2 hour slot with a charge for this as we set it up for you. Deadline to book this is 3 months before check in date. There are walks from the house in to the fells and the book town of Sedbergh is 3 miles awa...
Damian is an architect and Joanne is a photographer and St Marks Stays is our actual home that we set up to share with others as either group accommodation, or a retreat venue. Don't worry though, we live in our own self-contained apartment at the end of the house, next to the studio room. You may see us come and go from our own entrance at the end drive, but once we have shown you round, we leave you to it. We are of course usually around if you need help with anything so don't be afraid to come and find us. Also if there is anything special you need help organising, you only need to ask. We have a dog so if your dogs are not okay socially, just let us know and we can make sure she is not out in the garden at the same time to give you peace of mind.
St Marks Stays is easily located off the main road from Sedbergh, but is set within the peaceful countryside within the Howgill Fells. Our nearest neighbour is the church of St Mark opposite, otherwise your only neighbours will be sheep, the odd cow and all the local wildlife. Sedbergh is located 3 miles from us, with pubs, cafes, restaurants and local shops. We are within the Yorkshire Dales National Park, and are easily accessible to the Lake District with all that has to offer.
