Quirky and just what we needed in terms of a sense of history staying in an old converted bakery. The artwork originals added a nice touch plus the history of the building as detailed in the information book was informative.

The Old Bakery housed the ovens for a local bakery until early twentieth century. Our great grandfather, Daniel Le Cocq, was the last person in the family to work them; in 1889 he started delivering loaves aged just 13. Under his stewardship, the Victorian bakery gained good reputation and he won a contract to supply the 4000 strong British garrison stationed on the Island. He was able to retire from baking in the early 1920s devoting his time to breeding the famous Alderney Cow. In the late 1980s, when our parents inherited the property the original brick ovens were still there, what was now the Old Bakery bedroom was filled to the ceiling with sand to preserve the heat; insulated in this way the ovens could stay warm for days. There were originally about six stretching back 9ft into the sand, the remaining two doors our mother kept as a reminder of the bakery’s busier past. Apologies but due to the shortage of cleaning staff on the island we have a 5 day minimum booking period.
Two brothers whose great grandfather used to run a bakery shop and bakers on the property.
Based right in the centre of St Annes, with easy access to shops and restaurants.
