Cowshed was built more than 160 years ago and is part of East Orielton farm. Constructed using local red sandstone and built with the slope of the land making this an unusual building. We converted this redundant agricultural building between 2001 and 2010. The barn is surrounded by its own gardens on all sides with a beautiful woodland to the front. Native bird species are abundant from the humble sparrow to the majestic red kite. Jays, Magpies, Nut Hatch, woodpecker, Finch, Buzzard, Owls and even the odd Heron visit the gardens. Cowshed is ideally placed in the centre of southern Pembrokeshire within striking distance of the best beaches in Wales. Barafundal, Broad Haven south, Freshwater West, West Angle and Freshwater East are within a 15 minute car journey. Pembroke castle, Manorbier castle, Carew castle, Bosherston Lily Ponds, Tenby, Folly Farm, Oakwood Park, Cafe Mor at the Old Point House and much more.
We have been living at Cowshed for 25 years and brought up our four children here. This area of Pembrokeshire attracted us with its beautiful coastal scenery and the quiet rural pace of life. We love running, cycling and walking in the lanes, along the coast path and inland footpaths. Cowshed has been a labour of love and now represents 20 years of our efforts to realise our dream.
Cowshed is set at the furthest end of a large former farmyard. It retains its original character externally whilst the conversion has created a comfortable interior. The external spaces surrounding the barn are a haven of peace and tranquillity. Bird song fills the early morning air with the trees leaves rustling in harmony. We fell in love with this old building twenty five years ago and it still pleases us to wake here every day!
