In a tiny village south of Cambridge, this appealing 16th-century freehouse has an AA Rosette restaurant, an atmospheric bar, and new-build rooms with private bathrooms with free internet. The Red Lion is a Grade II heritage-listed building with a walled garden overlooked by a dovecote and village church. You will find beamed ceilings, log fires, cask ales and seasonal menus within the bar and restaurant. The Red Lion Hixton is recommended by Alastair Sawday, and is convenient for Cambridge University, Duxford Imperial War Musuem and highway M11.
