Welcome to Meganisi Island and Vathy Village Meganisi Island is a hidden gem located in the Ionian Sea off the west coast of Greece. The name "Meganisi" means "big island" in Greek, but it is actually the largest of a small group of islands. The island is less than 5 nautical miles from mainland Greece and just a couple of miles from the island of Lefkada. Meganisi Island is unspoiled by over-development, and its location between the mountains of mainland Greece and Lefkada Island provides spectacular views and wonderfully sheltered waters. Vathy is the main fishing port on Meganisi Island, and it is a picturesque and delightful harborside village bustling with activity. The quayside is lined with a number of excellent tavernas, restaurants, cafés, and bars. It is popular with yachts, which you will see coming and going from the quays and marina. Vathy has supermarkets, a bakery, and a patisserie, in addition to a few gift shops and boutiques.
