Looking to relax in a Cretan village? Kandanos is the real deal! Enjoy a peaceful country setting just 5 minutes walking from the center of Kandanos. Cooler mountain temperatures and almost no tourists while just 20 minutes driving to the beaches of Paleochora. Kandanos is set in an Eden of greenery, water and natural vitality. An ideal place to take it slow, or a base for exploring the Chania prefecture with easy day trips to Chania city, Elafonisi, Samaria Gorge, Gavdos, Phalasarna… The original house was built during the Venetian period of Crete’s history and has been in my family for six generations. After many renovations and additions, it’s now kitted out for 21st century comfort. A big house with strong wifi in EVERY room.
I am an American who moved back to her roots over thirty years ago and Kantanos has been my home ever since. Need anything? You can ALWAYS find me at I Platia, the wonderful taverna with the “farm to table” philosophy my family operates in the center in of the village (5 minutes walk from the house).
Kantanos has three small supermarkets, a butcher shop with all local meats and other local products, a pharmacy, a health clinic, a bakery, tavernas, bars and a sweet shop with regional specialties.
