Heracles Hotel is situated in the village of Spili, in the centre of Crete. Spili is built at the foot of Vorizis Mountain at an altitude of 430m. The main square of the village has a large stone fountain called “Kefalovrisi”. The fountain consists of a row of 25 stone carved lion heads from where crystal clear water flows all year around at a constant temperature of 13 °C. A traveller can visit Spili any time of the year. In the spring time it is very interesting to visit the small plateau close to Spili, Gious Cambos and watch the wild flowers that grow there such as orchids and a rare type of tulip that grows only in Crete called Tulipa doerfleri. In the summer and autumn time you can enjoy all the beautiful southern beaches of the prefecture of Rethymno which are accessible in 20 minutes by car. During winter you can explore the wild nature of Crete by hiking. Two routes of the European Trail E4 pass from Spili. The first one is the E4 Trail Spili - Kedros- Gerakari which starts from Spili and ends up at Gerakari village. The second one is the E4 Trail Agouseliana - Koxare – Spili which starts from Agouseliana village and ends up at Spili. The village of Spili offers all the amenities a traveller may need such as shops, cafes and taverns, post office and health centre.
