The house is large, spacious and perfectly located between the north and south shores of Crete. The home acts as a perfect base from which to explore the island and day trips can be made to Heraklion, to Chania, to dozens of beaches and historical sites. The house is located in Alones, an authentic Cretan village with a fascinating history. There is a museum in the village describing the history and the importance of the village during the WWII Resistance. Surrounded by mountains and endless views, it's peaceful and invigorating and the perfect place to relax after a day of hiking, exploring or swimming.
The house belongs to Marika and George Alevizakis. George was born in the village, 50 m. from where the house stands and they built the house as a modern, spacious getaway that would give them all the modern conveniences as well as keep them close to family in the village. They spend most of the year in Canada and part of the year in the house which they lovingly maintain.
The village sits at the foot of Mount Krioneritis and for the adventurous, there is wonderful hiking in the area. Near the top of Mount Krioneritis is a small chapel that is built into the side of the rock, Agio Pnevma, or Holy Spirit.
