Company info

Hello, I’m Manos Kalamenios. As a ceramic artist, designer, and educator, my creative practice has always been driven by a deep respect for materials, craftsmanship, and the beauty of slowing down. Over the past years, I have managed creative studio and public exhibition spaces in London, but Mary’s House represents a project closest to my heart. This guest house was originally established by my parents back in 1984. By reopening its doors today, I am keeping their beautiful legacy of hospitality alive while creating the first chapter of a brand-new cultural retreat ecosystem on Samos. What I love most about hosting is the opportunity to share the authentic, unhurried rhythm of island life with curious minds. For me, hosting is an extension of my creative practice—it is about creating a welcoming space where people feel grounded, inspired, and supported. When I am not working with clay or preparing the house, you will usually find me tending to my garden, cultivating flowers, or exploring the island's hidden corners. Samos is an island rich in artistic heritage, family-run vineyards, and ancient traditions. I look forward to welcoming you into this world, sharing a local glass of wine, and helping you discover Greece through the eyes of an artist. Welcome to Mary's House!

Property info

Welcome to the first chapter of Mary's House. Created by ceramic artist and educator Manos Kalamenios, Mary's House is an invitation to slow down and discover a side of Greece shaped by creativity, craftsmanship, and genuine human connection. The house is a comfortable, authentic 1980s building nestled in the beautiful mountain village of Vourliotes, Samos. Grounded in a philosophy of simplicity and honest materials, it offers a peaceful, unhurried environment where the greatest luxury is not excess, but the time and space to be fully present. The property features welcoming rooms, private bathrooms, and eco-friendly solar heating, making it a true home away from home. This is a space designed for culturally curious travelers. Whether you come to read, paint, write, or simply relax under the shade of an olive tree, Mary's House serves as a nourishing base. Through the eyes of an artist who knows the island deeply, you will be guided toward family-run vineyards, traditional local crafts, historic museums, and spectacular mountain and coastal landscapes. Founding Guest Season 2026 Summer 2026 marks our very first opening season. To celebrate this launch, we are offering exclusive, limited introductory rates. Guests joining us this year are invited to be a part of our story, helping to shape the future of Mary's House as we prepare to introduce a dedicated program of ceramics workshops, cultural experiences, and artist-led retreats from 2027 onward. We look forward to welcoming independent travelers, creative adults, and families who appreciate art, nature, and the simple pleasures of slow island living. Experience Samos beyond the guidebooks, and see Greece through the eyes of an artist.
