Pepi Boutique Hotel stands today in what used to be one of the oldest public primary schools of Europe for boys and girls of the 20th century. The oldest salvaged record of Pepi Boutique Hotel goes back to as the primary school ‘Athena’ - the Goddess of wisdom in antiquity. The building itself has been in the family from the previous century when the headmistress of ‘Athena’ Amalia retired, and after a decade ran by other administrators, the building was sold to our grandfather Sifis (Iosif). By then the building was a derelict; it stood silent, no children running through its corridors, no laughter, as the school had been closed. This silence lasted for some years. The garden overgrew and took to the main market street until our grandfather Sifis decided to start a cotton and silk business. In 1986 our father George, to the flanks of his father’s cotton and silk business opened Pepi Studios, in honour of his wife, our mother. In 2009 we, Sifis, and Manos, the younger generation of the family, decided to undertake the transformation of the whole business of Pepi Studios but this time also paying homage to the history of the building, hence Pepi Boutique Hotel.
