Nea Potidaia Situated on the Kassandra peninsula in Greece, Nea Potidaia (commonly named Potidaia) is almost 60 km away from Thessaloniki International Airport. With its rich history starting in the 4th century BC, the village has seen the influence of different civilizations, including the Byzantines, Ottomans, and Venetians. One of the most important battles in Greek history took place in the 432 BC between Sparta and Athens in that small village. Socrates and more philosophers went to Potidaia to help and end this battle. Potidaia lies at the narrowest point of the peninsula and has a fabulous 15 km stretch of sandy beaches! Visitors can explore the village’s traditional houses and get a sense of its historical past with the remains of its Byzantine wall. Potidaia offers a mix of beautiful beaches, history and warm hospitality, making it an appealing destination for travelers seeking fun and relaxation. Getting around: There is no public transit within the village of Potidaia. Having a car may be a convenient way to move around at your ease, even though the village is small and everything is within walking distance. The center of the village is about 1 km away from the house. Things to do: Even though Potidaia is a small village, its center offers all the necessities one might need on a daily basis: a pharmacy, grocery stores and coffee shops. Savor local cuisine and feast on freshly caught seafood and traditional mezes at bars, tavernas and restaurants, offering live music in the evenings. Every year, on August 23rd, and for 3 consecutive days, a festival is held in the main plaza of the village. The streets are open for pedestrians only, and locals celebrate a public party with live music, food and drinks. A real “joie-de-vivre”! Nearby Locations Just a short drive from Potidaia (approx. 7 km away), lies the neighboring town of Nea Moudania. Known for its lively atmosphere and bustling markets, Nea Moudania runs a famous farmers market every Wednesday.
