My father, 12 years ago, had the vision of creating a unique place that would highlight the Cretan architecture (Ottoman and Venetian), but at the same time keep the simplicity of the cretan countryside. Following this concept, along with a lot of his personal hard work, i worked together to make simple & minimal interiors, experimenting with raw materials & wabi sabi philosophy. Thus, we created the Prinus Country Retreat. My father, Gregory, the man behind the vision, an extrovert, that seizes the day(even though he's retired), might chit-chat with you about his olive oil or his wine & maybe even make some joke. He loves stone and wood, as myself too. Certainly in many ways we agree and in many other.. we disagree! :) Having left home and returned, having searched for experiences and tasted different cultures, I have landed at Chania and now I manage our family project. LOCATION : Our villa is composed by noble and natural materials and offers an opportunity for detox from stress and the daily grind, as well as for connection with the Cretan countryside and culture. Emprosneros, our village, is located at the middle between Chania & Rethimno cities, at the foothills of the White Mountains, at an altitude of 250 meters. The village is inhabited approximately by 300 permanent residents whose main occupation is animal farming, olive growing, viticulture, cheese & honey producing. In the small town Vryses, which is about 5 km away, you will find all kinds of shops and services. The town of Chania is a 40' drive. The town of Rethimno is a 4' drive. The airport of Chania is approximately 40'-50' drive. The Northern Cretan Sea, with its sandy beaches, is just a 15-minute drive away, while the Libyan sea with its mystic beaches is 45 min away. Stone, as a main characteristic of Apokoronas landscape dominates, while the lush green scenery(prinus trees, olive trees) adds a relaxing and slow-living tone to our space. It is a region rich in water resources and this is probably where the name “Emprosneros” was inspired from. During summer season here you will find your oasis, under the oak trees or at the natural spring close to the village square. Walk a few meters further and you will be at an open-air, stone built theater of 800 seats, where cultural events take place. At its opposite side, lies a church inside a rock. The village also presents great interest from archaeological and historical aspect. The restored tower of Alidakis the Janissary is a part of it. In Ebrosneros you will find traditional village cafes, a mini market,a tavern & a bakery(3'-5'on foot).There are also a football field, landscaped sidewalks and lush green areas.
