Villa Kastania: A Mountain Sanctuary Above the Cretan Blue
Perched at an altitude of 450 meters in the traditional village of Melidoni, Chania, Villa Kastania is a hidden gem that offers an authentic escape into the heart of Crete. This residence is a masterclass in blending rugged Cretan nature with refined, soulful hospitality.
The Location: Where Peaks Meet the Sea
Located in the historic region of Apokoronas, Villa Kastania serves as a private "balcony" overlooking the island. To the south, the majestic White Mountains (Lefka Ori) provide a dramatic backdrop of limestone peaks, while to the north, the gaze stretches across rolling olive groves down to the deep turquoise of the Cretan Sea.
Architectural Harmony & Comfort
Built with a deep respect for local heritage, the villa features hand-carved stone and warm wood accents, creating an atmosphere that is both grand and cozy.
The Infinity Experience: A stunning private pool sits at the edge of the property, offering a seamless view of the horizon—the perfect spot for a morning swim or a sunset cocktail.
Al Fresco Living: Expansive stone-paved terraces, a traditional wood-fire BBQ, and shaded dining areas allow you to embrace the Mediterranean outdoor lifestyle.
The Interior: High ceilings and large windows invite the landscape inside. Whether it’s the warmth of the fireplace in the cooler months or the airy, sun-drenched rooms in the summer, every corner is designed for serenity.
Why Villa Kastania?
Ultimate Privacy: Located away from the crowded tourist hubs, it offers the silence and seclusion needed for true rejuvenation.
The Best of Both Worlds: While you are immersed in the mountain air, you are only a 20-minute drive from the sandy, blue-flag beaches of Kalives and Almyrida.
Authentic Cretan Soul: Staying in Melidoni means experiencing life at a different pace. Explore local hiking trails, visit historic caves, and taste world-class olive oil and honey directly from the village producers.
A Journey to the Soul of Crete: A Welcome from Maria & Christos
Dear Travelers,
Welcome to Villa Kastania. We are Maria and Christos, and it is our greatest joy to invite you into a place that is much more than a villa—it is a piece of our hearts.
For me, Maria, Melidoni is not just a pin on the map. It is where my roots run deep. This village is the land of my ancestors, a place woven with the stories, the traditions, and the resilient spirit of my family. Driven by this profound connection to my heritage, Christos and I shared a dream: to create a sanctuary that honors the past while embracing the beauty of the present.
Together, we built Villa Kastania stone by stone. It was a true labor of love, born from our desire to share the authentic Cretan "slow living" with the world. Every corner of this house was designed with our own hands, blending the rugged elegance of our mountains with the warmth of true Cretan hospitality.
What awaits you here?
The Majesty of the White Mountains: Wake up to the awe-inspiring peaks that have stood guard over my family for generations. The view is not just scenery; it is an experience that grounds the soul.
A Sanctuary of Serenity: Whether you are lounging by the pool—a project Christos and I envisioned to merge with the horizon—or dining under the canopy of stars on our terrace, you will feel a sense of peace that only the Cretan countryside can offer.
A Taste of Authenticity: We invite you to breathe in the scent of wild thyme, to listen to the distant chime of sheep bells, and to taste the purity of our land.
We don’t just offer you a key; we offer you our local knowledge, our stories, and our passion for this corner of Crete. Our goal is for you to arrive as guests and leave feeling like you’ve found a second home in Melidoni.
We look forward to welcoming you to our story.
With our warmest Cretan hospitality,
Maria & Christos Your Hosts at Villa Kastania
