In the last quarter-century every summer, June through September, the Holy Cross Church in Rab is a venue for a classical music festival called Rab Music Evenings. Rab is also home to The Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary Cathedral, one of the most valuable Romanesque churches in Croatia, and many other precious monuments testifying to its long history and rich heritage. Owing to its amiable climate and a truly unique feel, the island has a long tradition in hospitality. In 1889 Municipal Council proclaimed Rab a seaside health resort. A new and vitally important stimulus to Rab tourism and its orientation was given in the past by Edward VIII, King of Great Britain. Reportedly, during his stay in Rab with his sweetheart, the American Wallis Simpson, he was the first person to bathe naked there starting Rab’s nudism tradition.
