The owners invested substantial amounts of money in the villa, which is a 400-year old stone house, and I think this shows. They tried to recreate an old world charm without overdoing it. Much of the furniture is imported from Transylvania, as they could not find what they wanted in Croatia. Inside of the house is really comfortable but in summer you will only live outside. The terrace is five times the size of the living room, which in itself is not small. It is dominated by a huge bougainvillea, and has orange and lemon trees. Some people find the 40-odd steps to the house an inconvenience, but like many locals you will appreciate this built-in daily exercise. Think of it like this: Cavtat has - in relative terms - ten times more centenarians than Holland. A word from the owners: One day in 2003 my husband called me from Cavtat, and said: 'I've found the perfect place. They don't need Brigitte Bardot here to turn this into a Saint-Tropez.' We bought the house the same year, and restored is lovingly over the following decade.

The house is located in a medieval town built on a pine-scented peninsula. It is very close to the sea (a 2-minute walk), 16 km from Dubrovnik (reachable by boat) and within easy driving distance of 6 other medieval towns. Nature is everywhere. This traditional stone house is just about 150m from the old town promenade with the cafes, restaurants and shops. The house can be reached either from the main parking (a 100m path with some 40 steps) or from the town promenade (a slightly longer but less steep climb through medieval streets). However, the house is not convenient for people with walking difficulties.
