Great room suite right down the road from the arctic henge! Loved the spaciousness of the flat, and the kitchen provided (despite not using it). Great and easy self check in - wish we stayed longer than 1 night!

The guesthouse is clean. The room was good. The sitting area was comfortable and the dining table could seat 8 people, I believe. The staff in the morning was helpful.

Short walk to the Artic Henge with kitchen for cooking. Owners were delightful. Drivable to Raudanes, which is a photographer’s and hiker’s playground.

This is an inn located in the northeast corner of Iceland. We went there to visit Stone Hengy. The inn is well maintained, clean and tidy. You need to change your shoes when you enter and go upstairs.

The Nest is a quiet guesthouse in an Icelandic Arctic Village called Raufarhöfn. People should first understand this means the village is remote and in a pristine location. My room was equipped with a full-size kitchen, a shower, and two beds. It...

Company info

We are Angela and Gísli, the owners of The Nest. We have been married for over ten years and share our lives with our five wonderful grandchildren, our dog Dreki, and our cat Moli. Angela was born and raised in Raufarhöfn and has deep roots in the community. Although life has taken her on many journeys, Raufarhöfn has always remained home in her heart. Gísli comes from Reyðarfjörður and works as a firefighter and paramedic, proudly serving the local community. Two years ago, we became the owners of The Nest and began the journey of bringing new life to this historic building. Since then, hardly a day has gone by without us working on improvements, repairs, and new ideas for the house. It has become much more than a business to us – it is a project of love, preservation, and community. During the summer months, we also operate the local campsite, which means that many visitors to Raufarhöfn meet us one way or another during their stay. We are not hotel professionals, but we are people who care deeply about our guests, our village, and this old house. Our goal is simple: to offer a warm welcome, a comfortable stay, and a genuine experience of life in one of Iceland's most unique and peaceful communities. When you stay at The Nest, you are not just visiting a guesthouse – you are visiting our home, our project, and a small part of our story.

Property info

The Nest – A House Full of Stories Built in 1943, The Nest is much more than a place to stay – it is a living piece of Raufarhöfn's history. Over the decades, this remarkable building has served many different purposes within the community. It has been home to families, housed offices during the prosperous herring years, and even served as the local telephone exchange. Each generation has left its mark, and the walls of the house still carry echoes of the people who lived and worked here. During the herring boom, Raufarhöfn grew into one of Iceland's most important fishing communities, and buildings like this one stood at the heart of village life. The town became a major centre for herring processing and export, shaping the lives of generations of local families. My husband Gísli and I became the owners of The Nest just two years ago. Since then, we have been working steadily to bring new life to this historic building while preserving its character and soul. The years have left their mark on the exterior, and the building still awaits some of the restoration work we dream of completing. It may look weathered and worn from the outside, but behind the doors guests will find something very different: a warm, welcoming and comfortable guesthouse filled with history, character and a genuine Icelandic atmosphere. Rather than creating a perfect hotel, our goal is to preserve an authentic piece of Raufarhöfn's heritage and share it with visitors from around the world. Every improvement we make is part of an ongoing journey to ensure that this old house can continue telling its story for generations to come. For me, Raufarhöfn has always been home – if not always in person, then certainly in my heart. It is a privilege to care for this historic building and share its story with our guests.

Neighborhood info

Whether you come to visit the Arctic Henge, experience the Midnight Sun, search for the Northern Lights, or simply enjoy the peace and quiet of Iceland's northernmost mainland village, we hope you will feel at home here. Nature lovers will also find themselves in a birdwatcher's paradise. The Melrakkaslétta peninsula and the surrounding coastline are known for their rich birdlife, with Arctic terns, eider ducks, fulmars, and many other seabirds commonly seen throughout the area. During summer, puffins can also be spotted in nearby coastal colonies, making the region a special destination for wildlife enthusiasts. Standing beneath the Arctic Henge in the glow of the Midnight Sun, listening to the calls of seabirds drifting across the coastline, it is easy to understand why so many visitors fall in love with this remote corner of Iceland. And in winter, when darkness returns, the same skies often come alive with the magic of the Northern Lights. Here, history is not found in museums alone – it lives in the landscape, the sea, the people, and the old houses that continue to welcome travellers from around the world.
