The Alberese and Banditella area is characterised by a very strong agricultural and natural heritage: The Maremma Regional Park: The area forms part of, or is immediately adjacent to, the Maremma Regional Park, a protected area of approximately 100 square kilometres that extends to the sea and the Bay of Talamone. The surrounding landscape is dominated by Mediterranean scrub, historic olive groves, pastures and dense woodland. History and Land Reform: Like most of the numbered estates in the area (the typical former ONC estates), Podere 109 has its historical roots in the land allocations of the last century. The estate’s historic vineyard is over 70 years old and dates back to the mid-1950s. Organic Farming and Viticulture: The area is renowned for producing local wines made from Sangiovese, Ciliegiolo and Trebbiano grapes, grown on clay-limestone soils that are ideal for viticulture. Green Tourism: The ‘neighbourhood’ has no large shopping centres or high-rise buildings, but is dotted with agritourism establishments, local roads perfect for cycle tourism or hiking, and small restaurants serving traditional Maremma cuisine made with locally sourced ingredients.
