Castellana Grotte (Casteddône in local dialect) is an Italian town of 19,570 inhabitants of the metropolitan city of Bari, in Puglia. Located on the limestone plateau of the Terra dei Trulli and the Caves, it is known above all for the karstic complex of the Castellana Caves located about three kilometers from our bed and breakfast.The Caves of Castellana are located less than two kilometers from the town in the Murge south east at 330 m asl, limestone plateau formed in the upper Cretaceous about ninety - one hundred million years ago. The tourist visit runs for 1.5 km but the longest route takes two hours and develops for 3 km, including caves and chasms. The natural entrance consists of a huge open pit, about sixty meters deep, called the Grave. From the Grave to the Grotta Nera or the Capitoline Lupa, after passing the Cavernone dei Monumenti, passing the Calza and then the Civetta Cavern, through the Corridor of the Serpent, the Cavern of the Precipice and the Little Paradise, we run down the long Corridor of the Desert also called the Grand Canyon underground, until you reach the infamous Bright White Cave !!!!
