Palazzo Sottile Meninni takes its name from the noble family of Gravina who built the residence and lived here since the 1500s. In 1636, it was the birthplace of Federico Meninni, Doctor of Medicine and Professor of Philosophy at the Royal University of Padua. A prominent figure of his time, he served as the personal physician to the Duchess of Tolfa-Orsini, mother of Pope Benedict XIII, and was a distinguished member and censor of several prestigious Italian Academies.In the 19th century, the palace was the home of Ferdinando Sottile Meninni. A commemorative marble plaque on the exterior still honors his legacy: "Here was born and lived a solitary, upright man, dear to the Muses and revered by his peers—Ferdinando Sottile Meninni. An exceptional educator, a father marked by grief, he possessed a great mind and an even greater heart (1824–1907)."In 1908, the last heir of the family, Sister Maria, bequeathed the ancestral palace to the Curia. In 1993, it was acquired by the entrepreneur Giuseppe Chiefa, who meticulously restored the building to serve as a private residence and prestigious commercial offices. Today, a wing of this historic Palace has been dedicated to welcoming guests, offering an authentic stay immersed in centuries of history

Founded in medieval times on the eastern bank of the Gravina stream (the same waters that flow past the world-famous Sassi di Matera), our city is rich in works of significant artistic interest.
