The villa is beautiful, and the views are absolutely breathtaking. A car is essential, as taxis are incredibly expensive and the area is not very walkable. The bus service can be unpredictable, but the caretaker is lovely and incredibly helpful....

My name is Annalisa Baldassarrini, I am a descendant of the Baldassarrini family who lived for centuries in the estate of Certano. I'm responsible for the management, maintenance and care of the houses and apartments that we rent. Fishing out things here and there from the rooms of the ancient villa of Certano, I tried to restore the flavor of the houses. In the days when I was a little girl and I used to go and visit the farmers in the houses we now open to tourists. I really like going to the flea markets in search of old objects and furniture to embellish our homes and create a true Tuscan atmosphere. I enjoy growing lavander and love creativity in general, and in the store I opened under the stable I create scented sachets and various crafts to offer to our guests. I'm keen on painting, decoupage, embroidery and creativity in general. Certano makes me feel good because it enhances my artistic side!

Neighborhood info

Only 7 km away, you can visit Siena and its monuments and feel the atmosphere of bygone times whilst strolling through the streets of the old town. Driving northwards towards Florence, just 15 km away is the small medieval village of Monteriggioni situated high up on a hill within a 13th century boundary wall with 14 towers, overlooking the Sienese hills. Once out of the estate of Certano, turn right and after 30 kilometres you will come to the small Romanesque church of Montesiepi which treasures the sword of St. Galgano embedded in the mountain rock. Nearby, you can visit the 13th century Gothic style, Cistercian Abbey of St. Galgano, with its collapsed roof that was never rebuilt. Going southwards, 9 kilometres from Buonconvento is the town of Monte Oliveto, where you can visit the Benedectine Monastery, a group of buildings erected between1300 and 1700. Still going southwards you will come to Montalcino and the Benedictine Abbey of St.Antimo. For those who like walking, from the estate you can easily reach the monastery of Lecceto or go to Belcaro along dirt roads far away from traffic, strolling totally relaxed and in contact with nature.
