Our Bed and Breakfast stands on the ruins of a medieval castle, whose name it bears, and in a hilltop village built using the stones of the old fortress. Even though memories of that time have dwindled, and the necessities of country life have radically changed the fort’s appearance, there remains something of a martial feeling - due perhaps to the strategic position dominating a vast valley.

We have always been interested in the most natural nutrition possible, especially with regard to breakfast, the most important meal of the day. We choose our ingredients with care, sourcing organically where possible, but in any case with a view to quality. Our bread - whether white, wholemeal or multi-seed, is made using yeast culture, thus ensuring a high level of digestibility and that classic taste - ‘just like it used to be’. As an alternative to bread, the salted focaccia (flat bread) is made using extra-virgin olive oil, and so is suitable for vegetarians and those with special requirements. And our local speciality - Erbazzone Reggiano - contains neither dripping nor lard, and can be enjoyed without worrying about your weight... All the jams are homemade, using the best fruit chosen at each season and transformed into tasty preserves. The cakes and pastries are always home-made, prepared with an eye to content of calories, fats and sugar, always balanced to provide energy without weighing too heavily. On request we will be happy to prepare breakfasts for people with coeliac conditions, for vegetarians, and to include or exclude specific ingredients.
