Il Molinaccio boasts 5 acres of land with fruit and olive trees, a pool, and quick access to a rustic hiking trail. This is a great place to relax and unwind in nature. Not only does access to the woodland trail offer 'nature bathing' but there is a sauna where you can relax daily to improve circulation and heart health while reducing stress and aches. And for a good night's rest, the whole villa boasts Hastens beds - feel what it is like to sleep on 'the Birkin Bag of mattresses'! If you want sightseeing, the villa is only minutes away from two quaint Chianti villages with shopping restaurants, and cafes. Siena is 30 minutes away and you can get to Florence in under an hour. Both make for easy day trips. There are numerous wineries to visit, or we can make arrangements for a wine tasting in town that features wines from many local wineries. It's located on a pedestrian-only street which makes it convenient for guests with children who may not be able to go to a local winery. San Gimignano is also close by as well as other historic and medieval towns. Although vacation should be a time to unwind, disconnect, and relax, we realize that being able to connect is important. Sometimes you just want to look up a local attraction or venue, or post pictures of your adventures. We have updated the wifi throughout the property so you can stay connected or just unwind by watching a movie from your own streaming service on a new Smart TV. The villa was originally built in the Middle Ages and once belonged to the Ricasoli family. A very important Florentine family whose ancestor, Bettino Ricasoli was the second (and seventh) Prime Minister of Italy in the 1860s. He owned this villa at the time.
Alice and Pasquale are thrilled to be hosting guests in this medieval villa in the heart of Chianti. First built as a watchtower for nearby Castle Meleto, it was then converted to a mill. Beginning in 1999, it was beautifully restored by a local ceramicist who still lives and works just minutes from the villa. Pasquale grew up in Florence, about 1 hour away from Gaiole and while he and Alice lived in the United States while raising their family, they have always wanted to get back to Italy. After vacationing here in 2026, they found the villa for sale, and it offered the perfect opportunity to get back to Italy. They love hosting and can be involved or invisible with the guests depending on what is preferred. They love Tuscany and are excited to share it with others.
Not only is our villa historic, but so is the nearby village of Gaiole in Chianti. The first definition of a Chianti area was described in 1716 as the Lega del Chianti and included the village of Gaiole, Radda, and Castellina. Although the initial league was created for military purposes, it later was used by Cosimo III de’ Medici, then the Grand Duke of Tuscany, decreed that these communities along with Greve and an area near Spedaluzzo were the only recognized producers of Chianti wine. He used the league name to name the wine that came from the same area. The area that comprises the Chianti region has since grown and changed, but Chianti Classico can still only come from a much smaller area of the actual Chianti region, and we are in the heart of it. The wine, Chianti Classico is easily spotted by the black rooster on the label and while there are gallo nero statues all over Chianti, the one in Gaiole is exceptional, make sure to get a picture of you and your group in front of it.
