Ortona is a quiet and sunny town, the gateway to the Trabocchi Coast. It boasts a spectacular Aragonese Castle, a 15th-century building, overlooking the sea. The remains of the Apostle Thomas are also kept in the Basilica of St. Thomas. There are several museums here, including the Museum of the Battle of Ortona (known as the "Little Stalingrad"), the Diocesan Museum, and the Tostiano Museum. The Eastern Promenade offers a splendid view of the sea and the port. A few kilometers away are several beaches: Lido Saraceni, Lido Riccio, Ripari di Giobbe, Punta dell'Acquabella, Punta Ferruccio, Spiaggia del Foro, Ripari Bardella, and all the others that can be reached by traveling along the Trabocchi Coast. From Ortona, you can easily reach the Majella, about 40/50 km away, ideal for scenic hikes. You can also easily reach the Tirino River, where you can enjoy various activities, such as canoeing, horseback riding, and more.
