Company info

our host has over 10 years of experience teaching yoga, meditation, and mindfulness practices. Inspired by Japanese tea culture, traditional wisdom, and meaningful human connection, she created B&B Hachi as a place where travelers can experience Kyoto beyond sightseeing. Together with our international team, we enjoy sharing local recommendations, cultural experiences, and the slower rhythms of everyday Kyoto life.

Property info

B&B Hachi is a small guesthouse set in a beautifully renovated 100-year-old Kyoto machiya in the historic Shimabara district, one of Kyoto's oldest geisha districts. More than just a place to stay, Hachi offers a chance to experience a quieter side of Kyoto through tea, culture, and meaningful connections with fellow travelers. Guests can relax in traditional tatami rooms, enjoy views of our Japanese garden, and spend time in our shared living spaces designed for both relaxation and connection. Throughout the year, guests may also have opportunities to experience tea rituals, calligraphy, traditional crafts, and other cultural activities inspired by Kyoto's rich traditions. Located just a 5-minute walk from JR Umekoji-Kyotonishi Station and Umekoji Park, Hachi offers easy access to Kyoto's major attractions while remaining in a peaceful local neighborhood away from the busiest tourist areas. Within walking distance, guests can find local restaurants, cafés, public bathhouses, grocery stores, convenience stores, and Kyoto Central Wholesale Market. Popular destinations such as Arashiyama, Kiyomizu-dera, Kinkaku-ji, and Nijo Castle are easily accessible by train or bus.

Neighborhood info

Located in Shimabara, one of Kyoto's oldest historic districts, B&B Hachi offers a chance to experience a quieter and more authentic side of the city. Unlike Kyoto's busy tourist areas, Shimabara remains a neighborhood where local life continues much as it has for generations. Historic landmarks such as Sumiya and Shimabara Omon Gate still remain, offering a glimpse into Kyoto's rich cultural heritage as a former geisha district. Today, the area is known not only for its history but also for its warm local atmosphere. Family-run cafés, traditional restaurants, public bathhouses, and small neighborhood shops create opportunities to experience everyday Kyoto life beyond sightseeing. Just a short walk away is Kyoto Central Wholesale Market, where local chefs and residents shop for fresh seasonal ingredients. The area is also home to several traditional sento bathhouses, making it easy to experience an important part of Japanese daily culture. Umekoji Park, Kyoto Aquarium, and the Kyoto Railway Museum are all within walking distance. Kyoto Station is just one train stop away, while popular destinations such as Arashiyama, Kinkaku-ji, Nijo Castle, and Kiyomizu-dera are easily accessible by train or bus. For travelers seeking more than sightseeing, Shimabara offers something increasingly rare in Kyoto: a chance to experience the city's slower rhythms, local culture, and genuine hospitality.
