Company info

We are a hospitality company based in Nagahama, Shiga Prefecture, a historic town located on the shores of Lake Biwa. Our work focuses on renovating and operating traditional Japanese machiya townhouses, many of which are more than a century old, and adapting them into comfortable, well-designed accommodations for modern travelers. Rather than building new structures, we believe in preserving existing architecture and extending its life, respecting the history, materials, and craftsmanship embedded in each building. Our goal is not to create luxury hotels in the conventional sense, but to offer calm, thoughtful places where guests can stay quietly and experience the rhythm of the town as it is. Each property is designed with care, using natural materials, warm lighting, and simple layouts that encourage rest and reflection. We prioritize comfort, cleanliness, and functionality while maintaining the unique character of each building. Our accommodations are intentionally flexible, allowing guests to explore local restaurants, shops, and seasonal events at their own pace. We work closely with the surrounding community and aim to support local culture, food, and everyday businesses through our operations. By inviting guests to walk the streets, eat locally, and stay longer, we hope to create meaningful connections between visitors and the town. Our approach values sustainability, small-scale hospitality, and long-term relationships with both buildings and people. Through each stay, we aim to offer not just a place to sleep, but a quiet base for discovering Nagahama naturally, slowly, and authentically.

Property info

Located in the heart of Nagahama, our hotel is an ideal base for exploring local history and nature. Nagahama is easily accessible from Kyoto, Osaka, and Nagoya in about one hour by train, and the property is just a 10-minute walk from Nagahama Station. Lake Biwa, Japan’s largest lake, is also within walking distance and offers beautiful views throughout the year, especially at sunset. The surrounding area features many restaurants and shops, including traditional Japanese cuisine, izakaya, sushi, Italian, Chinese food, BBQ, cafes, and supermarkets, making daily travel comfortable and convenient. The hotel is a carefully renovated traditional machiya townhouse built over 200 years ago. While preserving the original wooden structure and atmosphere, it has been fully updated to provide modern comfort, cleanliness, and functionality. Each room is private and designed with natural materials, soft lighting, and a calm, minimalist aesthetic. Some rooms include private sauna and bath facilities for a deeply relaxing stay. Seasonal events can also be enjoyed nearby, such as cherry blossoms and the Nagahama Hikiyama Festival in spring, local festivals and fireworks in summer, peaceful scenery in autumn, and winter access to Grand Snow Okuibuki ski resort by car or via train and shuttle bus. This accommodation is perfect for guests who enjoy flexible travel, exploring local restaurants, and experiencing Nagahama at a relaxed pace. The area around the property stays quiet at night, even during festival seasons, allowing guests to rest comfortably. This accommodation suits couples, solo travelers, and guests who prefer calm surroundings, thoughtful design, and a slower pace. It is a place to enjoy local food, seasonal scenery, and the everyday atmosphere of Nagahama, offering a simple and authentic stay by Lake Biwa.

Neighborhood info

The surrounding area offers a rich mix of local dining, nature, and history. Many restaurants, bars, and cafes are located within walking distance, ranging from traditional Japanese cuisine and izakaya to casual cafes and international options. One of the town’s most important landmarks is Daitsuji Temple, a large and symbolic temple of Jodo Shinshu Buddhism and the spiritual center of the historic temple town. The spacious grounds and impressive halls reflect Nagahama’s long religious and cultural history. Lake Biwa, Japan’s largest lake, is also nearby and easily accessible on foot. Lake Biwa offers beautiful scenery throughout the year, with especially memorable sunsets on clear days, when the sky and water gently reflect warm colors. The historic town center is a preserved and cozy area with traditional streets, old townhouses, and a calm atmosphere ideal for walking and exploring. The Yone River flows quietly through the city, creating a pleasant riverside path that is especially enjoyable during the warmer months. In winter, guests can easily access Grand Snow Okuibuki, one of the largest ski resorts in western Japan, known for its wide slopes and long season. The resort is reachable by car or via train and shuttle connections, making it convenient even for guests without a car. With cultural landmarks, seasonal nature, and everyday local life close at hand, the area provides a comfortable and well-balanced environment for travelers throughout the year.
