Kaigetsu – A Small Inn with a Long Story Kaigetsu is a small family-run inn with a history dating back to 1887. I am the fifth-generation hostess, continuing what my family started many years ago. Before opening the inn, our family worked in the shipbuilding industry, which was once an important part of this coastal community. The building today is simple and made of concrete, not a historic traditional structure. However, the spirit of the inn has continued through the generations. What has remained the same is the warm atmosphere and the connection with the local community. Many guests say that staying here feels less like a hotel and more like visiting a Japanese home. In addition to running the inn, we also organize eco-tours that introduce the nature and culture of the Ise-Shima area. Guests can visit small fishing villages, learn about the traditions of the Ama women divers, and experience the culture connected to Ise Grand Shrine. Kaigetsu is not a luxury hotel, but a place where travelers can experience the warmth of everyday life in Japan.

When guests depart, she prepares homemade rice balls as a small farewell gift for their journey — a tradition that many travelers remember fondly. Please note that the building has four floors and no elevator, so guests will need to use the stairs. Staff will gladly help if you have luggage.
