We have traveled to many countries in search of places where we could truly feel at ease, and it was here in Kawane Honcho that we finally found that sense of peace and stillness. Through our journeys around the world, we have always looked for places where we could truly feel at ease and at home. Rather than focusing only on major cities or tourist attractions, we preferred to stay longer in rural areas, shop at local markets and supermarkets, cook our own meals, take evening walks, and experience everyday life at a slower pace. These simple moments have become our most memorable travel experiences. After staying in many different hotels, guesthouses, and ryokans, we realized that our ideal way of traveling is to rent an entire private home where we can fully relax without being disturbed, while still feeling comfortable as if we were at home. We love meeting and talking with people, but we also deeply value quiet, private time without pressure or obligations. With this in mind, we created this accommodation to offer a peaceful, private space where guests can stay comfortably for longer periods, with everything needed for daily life. Kanata Riverview House is located in Kawane Honcho, a peaceful mountain town surrounded by rich nature along the Oi River, one of Japan’s most famous clear rivers. The greatest charm of this area is that it is not a heavily developed tourist destination, but a place where the “authentic Japanese landscape” still remains. Mountains, rivers, and vast tea fields that change beautifully with each season create a deeply calming and restorative atmosphere. Nearby, you can find Sumatakyo Gorge and the famous “Dream Suspension Bridge,” known for its emerald-green lake and spectacular canyon views, attracting visitors from all over Japan and abroad. There is also the “Okuoi Lake Station,” a remote and uniquely located train station that appears to float above the lake, offering an almost surreal landscape. The Oigawa Railway also offers nostalgic experiences such as steam locomotives (SL trains) and scenic trolley trains.
