Maeniiya Machiya Inn is a traditional machiya located on an old cobblestone lane in central Kyoto.. Filled with old world charm, this elegant machiya townhouse has many features only found in these historical buildings. A sunken kotatsu heater, tatami mat rooms and a Tsubo niwa garden are some of the features. The machiya comfortably sleeps 4 guests in two upstairs bedrooms. Downstairs there is a living room, sitting area, full kitchen and bathroom. Guests have complete use of the entire property and do not have to share with other guests.
Akemi has been welcoming guests for over 15 years. Having a passion for these traditional machiya townhouses, she was one of the very first to offer them to tourists.
All of our returning guests love the neighbourhood since they can experience local Japanese life. You really get the feeling of living in a community when you stay there. Its central location is perfect for sightseeing, with lots of public transportation close by and you can walk to Gion, Pontocho, Nishiki Market, and Kyoto's main shopping district. We are also perfectly located for taking day trips to Osaka, Nara and Arashiyama. The main Kyoto train station is only 400 meters away!
