Nestled in the quiet mountains of western Tokushima, Nishi-Awa Nest is a small guesthouse located in a peaceful rural village. The 40-year-old traditional house has been carefully renovated together with local craftsmen. It’s not a luxurious place, but it offers the warmth and simplicity of everyday countryside life in Japan. The location provides easy access to some of Shikoku’s most famous destinations — the dramatic Iya Valley, the sacred Kotohira Shrine (Konpira-san), and Mt. Tsurugi — making it a relaxing base for exploring the island. Check-in is done in person. Along with a tour of the house, the local owner will happily share recommendations for nearby restaurants, hot springs, and hidden gems across the Shikoku region. The kitchen is equipped with basic utensils and seasonings, so guests can enjoy cooking with local ingredients. On the morning of check-out, we serve a cup of hand-drip coffee or tea from the nearby Ōboke area. At night you’ll fall asleep to the sound of insects, and wake up to birds singing — a perfect place to slow down and enjoy “the beauty of doing nothing.”
Hello, I’m Ai (Megumi), the owner of Nishi-Awa Nest. I was born in Morioka, Iwate, and after working in Tokyo in film set design, share house management, and real estate, I moved to Tokushima to start a new chapter of my life. Alongside running this guesthouse, I also manage a local experience platform and a real estate service that specializes in vacant houses. My goal is to create a place where people, journeys, and everyday life in the countryside naturally connect. I personally welcome guests at check-in and introduce the house, as well as my favorite local restaurants, hot springs, and scenic spots — not only nearby, but also throughout Shikoku, including the best udon shops in Kagawa, and hidden gems in Kochi and Ehime. I love talking about travel, hot springs, camping, and nature — so please feel free to say hello! I hope you’ll enjoy the calm rhythm of life in the mountains and get a small taste of what living in Nishi-Awa feels like.
Nishi-Awa Nest is located in a quiet rural village in the western mountains of Tokushima Prefecture. It offers convenient access to some of Shikoku’s most famous destinations — Iya Valley, Kotohira Shrine (Konpira-san), and Mt. Tsurugi — making it an ideal base for exploring the island. Nearby, you’ll find local hot springs, nostalgic family-run diners, and cozy cafés that use fresh vegetables from the region. If you have a little more time, you can also enjoy outdoor experiences such as rafting on the Yoshino River, paragliding, or picking strawberries at a local farm. Each season brings its own beauty — cherry blossoms in spring, river fun in summer, colorful leaves in autumn, and starry skies in winter. During cherry blossom season, a quiet park filled with blooming trees awaits just a 15-minute walk away. There are no chain stores nearby, but within a 10-minute walk you’ll find a supermarket, convenience store, and small local eateries. Amid this gentle balance of simplicity and convenience, you can experience the peaceful rhythm of everyday life in Nishi-Awa. It’s the perfect place for those who want to unwind, enjoy nature, and experience the charm of countryside living in Japan.
