A ryokan and restaurant housed in the former residence of the Tachibana family, lords of the Yanagawa domain—still cared for today by their descendants. Carrying forward over 400 years of history and culture, the entire 7,000-tsubo estate (approx. 23,000 m²) is a Nationally Designated Place of Scenic Beauty, and the only such site in Japan where guests can stay overnight. To reveal new facets of this cultural property, we host a wide range of innovative, boundary-pushing programs. In 2025, Ohana celebrates the 75th anniversary of its founding as a ryokan and restaurant.

A heritage ryokan and restaurant overlooking the Shotoen garden, passed down from the Tachibana clan—former lords of Yanagawa—and still operated today by the family’s 18th generation. In the tranquil water town of Yanagawa, unwind in tatami-floored rooms crafted in natural wood, savor seasonal kaiseki cuisine, and explore the on-site garden and displays of historical artifacts connected to the Tachibana family. By reservation, you can enjoy unique boat experiences found only here, such as Breakfast on the Boat at dawn, Moon-Viewing (Sep–Nov), Dango on the Boat (Dec–Feb), and Fireworks on the Boat (outside winter). Ideal for anniversaries, couples’ getaways, and hosting international guests. Enjoy a roughly one-hour canal cruise in Yanagawa while listening to the boatman’s songs and stories. You’ll take in seasonal flowers and views of the old castle town. In winter, the cozy “kotatsu boat” (with a heated table) is especially popular. Depending on the route, some cruises finish right by Ohana—super convenient for access.
