Otowa-cho, where oribe guesthouse is located, is a calm and comfortable area just a short walk from Tajimi Station. Once known for its ceramic wholesale trade, the neighborhood still has large storehouses and old buildings scattered throughout. Tajimi is not only a great place to explore Mino ware, but also a convenient base for visiting the historic Nakasendo post towns. Magome-juku is just over an hour away by car, and Tsumago-juku can be visited on the same trip. After walking through stone-paved streets and traditional townscapes, you can return to a quiet old house in Tajimi and relax. Start your morning like a local at Cafe Kinomi, a neighborhood coffee shop with a nostalgic Showa-era atmosphere. Try the classic “morning set,” where thick toast comes with your coffee. Within walking distance, you will also find Chez Shibata’s main store and Uoseki, a well-loved local eel restaurant. The area has a surprisingly good food scene. You can eat out near the station or bring takeout back and enjoy it slowly in the peaceful space of the guesthouse. About 15 minutes on foot brings you to Honmachi Oribe Street, where renovated old storehouses now house galleries and shops. It is a perfect place to look for your own favorite piece of Mino ware. If you go a little farther, Ceramic Park MINO, designed by Arata Isozaki, is a must for architecture and art lovers. Tajimi is just over 30 minutes by train from Nagoya. It is also a convenient hub for trips to Toki Premium Outlets, Ena, Nakatsugawa, and the nature-rich Kiso Valley area. Mino ware, Nakasendo post towns, and easy side trips from Nagoya can all fit naturally into one stay. We chose Otowa-cho because we want guests to enjoy not only famous sightseeing spots, but also the quiet streets, old scenery, and everyday atmosphere of Tajimi. Even on the way to Magome-juku and Tsumago-juku, this is a town worth pausing for.
