After graduating from Tokyo University of Agriculture and spending a year working in the field of education, I found myself drawn to the serene mountains of Nagano. The vast nature and quiet beauty of the landscape deeply moved me and led me to step away from the noise of city life in search of a new path. Through a local internship, I built connections that gave me the courage to take this next step. Together with a trusted friend, I launched a project focused on revitalizing vacant homes and addressing local community challenges. This project is still in its early stages, and we are learning through daily trial and error. Our goal is to create more than just a place to stay—we aim to offer a space where people can truly relax and feel at home. Drawing on our knowledge of architecture and interior design, we strive to shape environments that are both comfortable and reflective of the unique character and needs of the local area. At the same time, I am currently studying photography and baking, hoping to share more of Japan’s beautiful places and culture through these creative outlets.

Nestled in the heart of Matsumoto, Nagano, Guesthouse TANDEM is a small, thoughtfully renovated Japanese home designed around the concept of “traveling as if living.” It’s a place where the charm of traditional architecture blends seamlessly with modern comfort, creating a warm and nostalgic atmosphere. With original wooden beams, earthen walls, and natural breezeways preserved, the space invites guests to slow down and become part of the city’s everyday rhythm—not just as travelers, but as temporary locals. TANDEM offers a special experience with its limited-time full-house rental plan. Perfect for families or close friends, the entire house can be reserved as a private retreat. Whether you want to relax before or after hiking and exploring nature, or simply spend quiet time with loved ones, this private setting offers freedom, comfort, and peace of mind. The house features three unique rooms, each reflecting a different mood and style, all unified by natural materials and Japanese design. The first is a compact yet cozy 4.5-tatami room, retaining wooden beams and earthen walls for a warm and nostalgic ambiance. It includes a 140×200 cm double bed and a desk, ideal for remote work or quiet rest. Reliable Wi-Fi and a tranquil setting make it perfect for those wanting to blend work and leisure while traveling. The second is a spacious Japanese-modern room, designed for up to four guests. It features a thick double bed, a navy-blue sofa bed (80×173 cm), a futon (100×200 cm), and even a playful “secret base”–style short bed (173 cm) tucked inside the closet. A veranda allows guests to enjoy morning tea or an afternoon book, while the natural cedar wood helps regulate humidity year-round, offering comfort in every season.

Guesthouse TANDEM, located near the iconic Matsumoto Castle, offers an ideal base to fully experience the charm of Matsumoto and the wider Shinshu region. Just a short walk from the guesthouse, you will find Matsumoto Castle, a designated National Treasure of Japan. Its striking black keep beautifully contrasts with the changing seasons, captivating all who visit. Nearby, the historic Nawate Street preserves the atmosphere of the old castle town, while Matsumoto Station, a major transportation hub, is conveniently close. For longer stays or sightseeing trips, the surrounding area includes convenient amenities such as supermarkets and convenience stores, making your stay hassle-free. Matsumoto City lies at the heart of the Shinshu area, where nature and history coexist harmoniously.
