Salam from both of us! I'm Abderrahman, but you can call me Abdoul. I’m a Berber Gnaoua and native of Khamlia, Morocco, and my wife, Suzanne is originally from Ireland. We met in 2000 and got married in 2010. After four years of living in beautiful Edinburgh, we decided to move back to Khamlia, my charming village in southeastern Morocco. We both love the Moroccan desert and missed being around my family, friends, and my mum's wonderful cooking. We simply missed the intoxicating aromas, sights, and sounds of the vast and magical Sahara. I have eleven brothers and eight sisters. Many of them still live in the village with their families and children. Khamlia is mostly Gnaoua people. My profile picture shows me in my traditional Gnaoua musician dress. The photo was takend by world-famous photographer, Sandro Miller as a part of his “Eyes of Morocco” project.

Khamlia Desert Bed & Breakfast is a traditionally built Berber accommodation full of European comforts. We have four en-suite rooms, all with air-conditioning, commode toilets, and hot, solar-powered showers. We have many areas for relaxing, reading, enjoying the sun or stargazing. In our salon, we have a large selection of DVDs and books as well as board games, jigsaw puzzles, dominoes and cards. We also have a large collection of musical instruments which can be played and enjoyed. We have a beautiful, large rooftop terrace that offers incredible views of the desert dunes. Feel free to sleep out under the stars, enjoy some morning yoga, or simply enjoy a traditional Moroccan meal with hot mint tea. We can assist you in arranging a myriad of activities including camel trekking, motorbiking, touring the local village and market, cooking classes, and sightseeing trips into the desert by day or night. Sahara Desert. There are about forty family houses in the village. Many changes have occurred since Suzanne first visited Khamlia in 2000. The most significant change that affects us are main electricity, running water, and Tarmacadam Road. Khamlia may have modernized a bit, but a lot has remained the same too! Our Berber traditions, culture, family celebrations, amazing Gnaoua music as well as our annual Khamlia Gnaoua Festival all continue to thrive and enchant our lives.
