Plav is a small town with 8000 inhabitants that stretches on the brinks of river Lim at the foot of the mountain range Prokletije. Data related to the first Roman settlement in the area date back to the 7th century, and Plav was named after the Roman emperor Flavius. It is known for many cultural and historical monuments, the most famous of which are: Redžepagić Tower, Sultanija Mosque, and Holy Trinity Monastery. Due to the beautiful lakes, the imposing peaks of Prokletije, the famous Alipaša springs of clear mountain rivers as well as the numerous cultural events that take place here, Plav is recognized as a tourist destination. Of the several lakes located in the immediate vicinity of the city, two of them stand out as the main tourist attractions - Lake Plav and Visitor Lake with its floating island.
