Naifaru island, an idyllic paradise sat in the Indian Ocean, is the capital of Lhaviyani Atoll and sits just 141 kilometres north of Male. Lhaviyani Atoll is ranked 5 of 26 most beautiful atolls in the Maldives islands. There are 4 uninhabited islands, 3 sand banks and a live house reef right here next to Naifaru Island. Life on Naifaru is no different to any other busy city with shops, schools, restaurants, a hospital and sight seeing facilities. Despite the modern way of life the people of Naifaru keep their traditional values and vibrant heritage alive. They are family oriented, hard working, kind and extremely welcoming. The island’s economy is based on fishing, retail and a fledgling tourism sector. Although English is widely spoken the national language is Dhivehi which is spoken by the islands approximate 5,000 inhabitants. Visitors should bear in mind that the Maldives is an Islamic country and their rules and beliefs should be respected at all times. This means there is no bikini beach on the island and all guests must be covered from their shoulders to their knees.
