Beth and David have built a paradise in Merida. Beth was born in Hawaii, grew up in NYC and lived in the Hudson Valley. She worked designing homes and was a professional ice skater. She has always been an artiest and has a painting and ceramics studio. David was born in Jamaica, grew up in Toronto and moved to NYC at the age of 18. He was a principle dancer with the Martha Graham Dance Company and toured over 60 countries with his own company. David's passion is a system called Body Re-code in which he works with people with injuries in his pilates/gyrotonic studio. Together they co-direct the art gallery called CalleOuvert.

In the center of the historic city of Mérida, MX, behind an unassuming facade, CalleOuvert blooms from the cityscape, like a living organism, structures at once anomalous and harmonious in their surroundings. CalleOuvert, was choreographed as an art village concept by dancer visionaries Beth Woronoff Brown and David Brown. The structure is a series of zoomorphic organisms, abandoning linear order in favor of fluid, elegantly playful forms that seem to emerge directly from the earth. Here, architecture transcends mere form; enveloping and igniting both body and soul. Wandering through our gardens, you are embraced by bold curves and flowing volumes. Let your gaze dance between nature and art, as your spirit expands, grounding your feet in the natural world. Each of the 6 offerings is a unique layering of walls and plants, framed views and cocoon-like spaces, private and bright with pasta tiles, chukum walls, handmade ceramic light fixtures, and other decorative pieces. Private outdoor spaces invite relaxation in hammocks, while ensuite bathrooms, kitchenettes and personal workspaces rewrite the travel experience. CalleOuvert's shared spaces include an entry room, passageway, and Grand Paseo leading from the Mayan Arch to the main garden, boasting a 10.5-meter lap pool, waterfall, koi pond, vegetable garden, and more than 16 fruit trees. Shared spaces include sitting places to quietly contemplate or join in conversations with other guests and visiting artists, creating opportunities for creative inspiration and renewal. We are currently in our quiet, pre-launch phase as our master sculptors wrap up final artistic installations on the property. We are in between La Ermita and San Juan, in the middle of the old part of Merida. The neighborhood is evolving quickly. there are many artists studios, several new galleries, a vegan restaurant, a fancy hotel and restaurant, a great cafe with the best coffee in Merida and much more. You can walk to the main plaza in under 10 minutes.
