The Casita del Museo is a charming and peaceful space within the lush garden of the MUREM property. Inside, the main room offers a flexible layout with twin beds that can convert to a king-size bed, a cozy armchair, and a versatile table and chairs for dining or work. If you like to cook, the fully-equipped kitchen includes a stovetop, mini-fridge, and filtered water. And if cooking is not your thing, a café, Caffeto Caramel, is on the property serving breakfasts and light meals. A washer/dryer is also available for your convenience in the Casita. The Casita´s patio features a refreshing dipping pool. A side porch with a table offers the perfect spot to relax, while a smaller patio provides additional privacy. With extras like bug lamps, hammocks, and an outdoor fireplace, you'll have everything you need for a comfortable stay. Free on-site parking is also available for guests. The Casita offers easy access to the city of Valladolid, we are situated in front of San Juan Park and only four blocks from the central park. All income from your stay goes directly to our nonprofit museum, which means you not only enjoy a unique experience but also help preserve Mexican culture.
Hi, I’m Tey, founder and director of the Museo de Ropa Étnica de México (MUREM). Originally from Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, I am fortunate to hold dual citizenship in the United States and Mexico. After retiring from the Carnegie Museum of Art in 2008, I came to Valladolid to connect with my Mexican heritage in a fuller way. What was meant to be a one year stay became a lifelong commitment. In 2018, I founded MUREM to celebrate and safeguard Mexico’s rich clothing traditions. Our collection showcases the artistry and diversity of indigenous, mestizo, and contemporary communities, offering visitors an authentic and meaningful way to experience Mexican culture through its textiles. With the support of our wonderful team, we’ve created a museum that is both intimate and welcoming. As a nonprofit, MUREM relies on community support. Proceeds from the Casita del Museo directly sustain museum operations. By staying with us, you are helping preserve and share Mexico’s living heritage. We are grateful for your support, and delighted to welcome you.
Valladolid is a historic colonial city located in the heart of the Yucatán Peninsula. Founded in 1543, it is an attractive, safe, and very walkable city with a relaxed, welcoming atmosphere that reflects both Spanish colonial and deeply rooted Mayan traditions. The city is an ideal base for exploring the region. Within a ten block radius of MUREM´s Casita, visitors can enjoy the town´s cenote, the municipal market, colonial-era churches and parks, museums, galleries, artisan stalls, and a variety of restaurants, ice cream shops, and cafes. Just beyond Valladolid, many fascinating destinations are within easy reach: the archaeological sites of Chichén Itzá and Ek Balam, cenotes, nature reserves, and Mayan villages can be visited by traveling in colectivos, by bus, or by the Tren Maya. Valladolid’s central location also makes it convenient for day trips to Mérida, Cancún, and the Caribbean coast.
